Leon은 남부 캘리포니아에서 태어났다. 어린 시절 부터 자연에 관심이 많았고 자연주의자에게서 많은 것을 배웠다.
사춘기 초반에 돌아가신 아버지의 그림 몇 점과 그림 도구가 들어 있는 작은 상자를 발견했다.아버지는 그가 너무 어려서 기억할 수 없을 때 세상을 떠났지만,소박한 페인트 상자가 아버지와 연결되어 있다고 느꼈다. 이것은 인생을 바꾸는 사건이었다.
그의 작품은 18세기와 19세기의 낭만주의와 맥이 닿아있다.룰렛은 풍경을 캔버스로 번역하여 보는 사람에게 자연의 아름다움과 경이로움을 시각적으로 선사한다
